Rustlers Sweep Hawks to Reach 20-Win Mark On Sophomore Night
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The Golden West College men's volleyball team delivered a commanding performance Wednesday night, sweeping Santiago Canyon College in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16, inside the Golden West Gym.
With the victory, the Rustlers improve to 20-3 overall and 10-3 in Orange Empire Conference play.
Golden West showcased a balanced and efficient offensive attack, hitting .432 as a team while recording 45 kills on just 10 errors. The Rustlers were particularly sharp in the opening set, hitting .500, and maintained steady control throughout the match.
Leading the offensive charge was Aidan Dubno, who tallied a team-high nine kills while hitting .471 to go along with solid all-around play. Frankie Gates was nearly flawless, finishing with six kills on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. Noah Nelson added eight kills and contributed defensively with two block assists.
Setter John Braunstein orchestrated the offense with 15 assists, while Bryce Nehova added 15 assists of his own as the Rustlers ran a fluid two-setter system that kept the Hawks off balance all evening.
Defensively, Golden West totaled 15 team blocks, led by AJ Kuebrich and Travis Vandeluyster, who were active at the net. The Rustlers also received key back-row contributions from Keegan Martyn and Kenneth Olmos, helping limit Santiago Canyon's offensive rhythm.
Santiago Canyon (5-16, 4-9 OEC) was led by Jack Frame and Levi Florance, but the Hawks struggled to sustain consistency.
The Rustlers wrap up the regular season on road Friday at Orange Coast College with a 6pm start.
