Huntingon Beach, Calif. - The march toward a state title continues for the #1 seeded Golden West College Rustlers as they face off against the #5 seeded Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros in the 3C2A State Semifinals this Thursday evening at Orange Coast College.
Golden West (21-2) rolled through the opening round of the playoffs with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Santa Monica College. Behind star outside hitter Aidan Powell and a well-balanced attack that hit nearly .300 as a team, the Rustlers showcased the firepower and depth that earned them the top seed in the state.
On the other side of the net, Santa Barbara (16-7) comes into the semifinals full of confidence after a thrilling five-set upset over #4 Moorpark College 25-11, 21-25, 25-27, 25-17, 15-13.
These two teams met earlier in the season, with Golden West taking a 3-0 victory in Santa Barbara. But with a spot in the State Championship Match on the line, expect an even more intense battle.
