Abernathy, Versegi Lead Rustlers at OCC Invitational
COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Golden West College women's swim team competed against a strong field at the OCC Invitational on Friday, April 3, at the Orange Coast College Aquatic Pavilion, finishing sixth overall with 265 team points.
The Rustlers were highlighted by a dominant distance performance from Sienna Abernathy, who captured two individual victories. Abernathy won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.80, improving her time by over seven seconds, and followed with a first-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle at 18:58.24 with even more impressive win of more than 35 seconds. She also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:27.61), showcasing her versatility across multiple events.
Mimi Versegi delivered a standout meet with multiple top finishes, including a victory in the 200 freestyle (2:18.64) and another first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:58.27). Versegi also placed third in the 1650 freestyle (20:09.37), giving Golden West a strong presence in the distance events.
Savanna Ettinger contributed key sprint and backstroke points for the Rustlers, finishing sixth in the 50 freestyle (26.31) and sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:29.35), while also placing eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:08.60).
Sam O'Donnell added depth with a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:11.31) and 500 freestyle (5:52.13), along with an eighth-place showing in the 200 backstroke (2:30.63).
Zoe Esquivel continued her consistent season with a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.67) and sixth in the 100 IM (1:07.83), while also contributing in the sprint freestyle.
Hanna Menyhart posted a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:36.26) and added a ninth-place result in the 200 backstroke (2:31.85), along with two swims in the 100 backstroke.
Additional scoring efforts came from Catherine Le in the IM and breaststroke events, Sophie Kresge in the freestyle and butterfly, and Kaylee Huynh, Monet Panter, and Mya Huynh, who each contributed across multiple events to round out the Rustlers' scoring.
