Golden West College is dedicated in building a successful women’s soccer program.

Coach Ruiz begins his second year as head coach of the Rustler Soccer program. Coach Ruiz demands academic excellence of his players, and promotes the ideals of good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, character, respect, citizenship and individual achievement.

Coach Ruiz has been coaching competitive soccer for over 20 years. He implements the Coerver pyramid of player development a teaching method that is very successful in the overall preparation of the student athlete by promoting the necessity to maintain academics as a primary goal.  Ruiz has developed and produced male and female student athletes that have gone on to play in top Division I, II, NAIA Universities and Major League Soccer (MLS).  For example, Agustin Tino Nunez, current professional soccer player and MLS 2009 champion for Real Salt Lake soccer team, is a product of Coach Ruiz successful coaching methodology.

Coach Ruiz has played professionally in all levels in Mexico for Victoria FC, Bachilleres FC and Atlas FC reserves.  As a collegiate player he played at Cal State Bakersfield. He was named Most Value Player at Long Beach City College and in 1986 Moore League Most Valuable Player while playing at Millikan High School in Long Beach. He was also first team All CIF selection and is on the Long Beach Century Club Honor for Student Athletes.

In addition, Coach Ruiz was instrumental as an assistant coach in helping the Cerritos College men’s soccer win a State Championship and a South Coast Conference title in 2008. He was also named the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2001, as Head Coach for Compton College Men’s program. Coach Ruiz was also part of the Cal South Olympic Development Program in 1999. He has been the Girl’s Coaching Director for Revolution FC, NHB FC, and Beach FC.

Coach Ruiz graduated from Cal State University Dominguez Hills in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Minor in Coaching along with a Fitness Director’s Certificate. Raul is currently working for Cypress FC, as a Coerver Master Coach.

National A Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation
Coerver Certified Instructor in Southern California
Develops and transfers Student Athletes to Division I, II, NAIA Universities and Major League Soccer
