GWC Volleyball swept

Golden West College's men's volleyball team faced off against Orange Coast College Friday, March 18 at OCC. The Rustlers lost, 25-21, 25-17, 25-14 in three sets to the undefeated Pacific Coast Conference leaders.

The momentum from their previous 3-0 win against San Diego Mesa College, March 11, helped Golden West to start the game strong for the away team; the ending, was a different story for the away team.

With fluid communication, strong blocks and creative kills, GWC picked up a 16-13 lead against the Pirates, keeping OCC on their toes halfway into the first set.

GWC had the opportunity to finally prove themselves against their sister school and dig their way out of their 5-6 struggle this season.

However, the green and gold's flow fell apart somewhere in game one. OCC served up a few quick kills that snatched both Golden West's lead and confidence. The Rustlers responded with slow, wide returns, and poorly placed blocks that ended the set 21-25.

GWC got progressively worse as the match continued and OCC found a rhythm that's kept them on top throughout the season. Golden West put up a fight in game two, but overpowering kills from the home team tangled up their disorganized defense and ended the set 17-25.

In the third set, the Pirates stepped up and the Rustlers were almost nonexistent; the score stacked up to a 14-25 loss and 0-3 defeat overall.

Golden West matches up against San Diego City College Wednesday, March 23 and Palomar College Friday, March 25 at home.
