The Golden West men's volleyball team has continued to struggle to find consistency throughout their up-and-down season, falling 3-1 against Grossmont College March 30 followed by consecutive wins over Irvine Valley College April 1 and San Diego Mesa College April 5.
The Rustlers couldn't hold on to their 1-0 lead after the first set against Grossmont, who stand at second place and only a single win behind OCC in conference play. A tough loss in the third set, 28-30, kept the momentum going for the Griffins as they cruised to victory shortly thereafter. The match ended in a 1-3 loss for GWC, 25-23, 17-25, 28-30, 16-25.
Golden West earned a hard fought victory over Irvine Valley after previously being defeated by the Lasers 3-1 on March 9. The match was a constant set for set battle, but Golden West won the war with a tumultuous 3-2 win, ending 24-26, 25-21, 26-28, 25-23, 18-16.
The green and gold kept the pace going into their next match against the San Diego Mesa Olympians, coming away with a 3-0 in consistent set play 25-21, 25-13, 25-13. Combined with the Rustler's March 11 victory, GWC managed to win all six sets they played against the Olympians during the 2011 regular season.
Golden West will finish their regular season against OCC at home April 13 and San Diego City College on the road, April 15. Southern California Regionals begin April 18.
