Scoring in each of the first four innings, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers blanked the visiting Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers, 10-0
Hosting district rival Orange Coast College, the Golden West softball team came out on top with a 5-4 victory scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday, February 22.
Golden West opened scoring when Tanya Dowler, who reached on a one-out single in the first inning, scored when Katie Fredrickson reached on an error. The play should have resulted in the final out of the inning but gave the Rustlers an early 1-0 lead instead.
Rustlers came out with a vengeance forcing the umpire to call the game based on the mercy rule in softball.
Rustlers open 2012 season at home with a double header against Southwestern and Mt. San Jacinto.
