CYPRESS, CA - The Golden West College men's soccer team (5-0-3, 1-0-1) beat Cypress College (3-5, 0-2) on the road 4 to 1 to earn its first Orange Empire Conference victory of the season.
The first half was uneventful as neither team had many chances to score. The best opportunity came on a shot from the Chargers, but the ball struck the crossbar.
The second half began with a quick goal from Golden West's Erick Gomez's' first goal of the season to make it 1-0. The Charges were then called for hand ball in the box which allowed the Rustlers Anthony Saldana to convert the penalty kick and give the Rustlers a 2-0 lead. Cypress did convert on a penalty kick of their own to make it 2-1. Following the penalty kick Saldana struck for his second goal of the game to give the Rustlers a 3-1 lead. Brian Montano would add another insurance goal for Golden West at 79th minute to secure the 4-1 conference victory.
