Golden West Football Ranked No. 3

San Mateo (Oct. 5, 2015) -- Riverside City College has reached the mid-point in the California Community College Athletic Association football season atop the JC Athletic Bureau's poll of football coaches -- for a fifth week.

There was only one slight change among the top five this week, with four National (state championship) division teams still unbeaten – all in Southern California. Long Beach needed double overtime to get past defending state champion Mt. San Antonio, 38-37, and remains No. 2. Golden West moved up to No. 3, switching spots with Canyons.

San Mateo remained No. 5 – and tops in the north – after beating No. 8 American River, 42-10. There are no unbeaten National teams in the north after now No. 11 Santa Rosa blanked Sequoias, 44-0.

 Although most teams have byes this week (including all in Northern California), the top teams in Southern California have some interesting crossover match-ups. They include Riverside at No. 24 Fullerton, No. 12 Allan Hancock at No. 2 Long Beach, No. 4 Canyons at No. 17 Saddleback, and No. 10 Ventura at No. 3 Golden West.

National division competition in the north gets into full swing on Oct. 17. Openers include: Bay 6: No. 5 San Mateo at No. 11 Santa Rosa; NorCal: No.  Siskiyous at No. 8 American River; Valley: No. 13 Sequoias at No. 9 Modesto, No. 14 Chabot at Delta, No. 20 Laney at No. 16 Fresno. Early league unbeaten meet in the American Division with Contra Costa at Yuba and West Hills at Reedley.
