Mark Schubert heads up the Golden West College Men’s and
Women’s Swimming and Diving Program. Schubert, an
eight-time Olympic coach (1980, ’84, ’88, ’92,
’96, 2000, ’04, ’08), and 3-time NCAA Champion
will begin the next chapter of his coaching career as a Rustler at
Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California.
One of the United States most recognizable and successful coaches
of all-time, Schubert was inducted into the International Swimming
Hall of Fame on January 10, 1997 as “Honor Coach.” He
also was named Coach of the Year by five organizations: American
Swimming Coaches Association, United States Olympic Committee,
United States Swimming, NCAA and Pac-10.
During Schubert’s coaching tenure, he worked with notable
swimmers: Shirley Babashoff, Sippy Woodhead, Jill Sterkel, Janet
Evans, Lenny Krayzelburg, and most recently swimmers: Lindsay
Benko, Erik Vendt, Larsen Jensen, Ous Mellouli, Dara Torres and
Kaitlin Sandeno.
Golden West looks towards Shubert’s expertise to maintain
the high standards and continued success of the Men’s and
Women’s Swimming and Diving Program.
Schubert’s coaching career has included:
Mission Viejo Nadadores (44 National Team Titles, 16 USA
Olympians, 11 Olympic Gold Medalists),
University of Texas (2 NCAA National Team Titles, 3 USA Olympians,
1 Olympic Gold Medalist)
University of Southern California (USC) (1 NCAA National Team
Title, 9 USA Olympians, 8 Olympic Gold Medalists).
