Santa Ana Hands Golden West First OEC Loss

The Santa Ana College (SAC) men's soccer team snapped Golden West College's six-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) match.

The win pulls the Dons (8-3-3, 5-1-1) within two points of Golden West (8-3-2, 6-1-0) in the conference standings heading into the second round of OEC competition.

The Rustlers controlled most of the action in the first half with five shots compared to the Dons one. However, just one of those shots made its way to the goal.

The Rustlers did, however, have the best scoring opportunity of the half. But what appeared to be the game's first goal was called back on a foul just outside of the box..

With the first half belonging to the Rustlers, the Dons took control of the game in the second half. Briant Rodelo set up Eduardo Pantoja in the 51st minute for the game's first goal, giving the Dons a 1-0 lead.

The Dons added an insurance goal in the 80th minute after Hung Phung took control of the ball at midfield and dribbled through the Rustlers defense before getting fouled in the box. Rodelo converted the penalty kick to put the Dons up 2-0.

Golden West hosts Cypress College on Friday for a 3:00pm start.
