Norwalk, Calif. – Rain storms are doing all they can to disrupt the three-game series against Cerritos College (2-4), but the two teams were able to play game two on Sunday. For the second time, the Rustlers (3-4) came away victorious behind another strong outing by sophomore pitcher Stephen Knapp (2-0).
Golden West was able to get on the board in the top of the first inning as the leadoff hitter Louie Conjura (2 for 3, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) singled, followed by a sac- bunt, Conjura moved to second base. With two-outs Junior Aguilar (2 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) would smash a triple that would score Conjura and give a 1-0 lead. Cerritos would respond scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rustlers would answer right back scoring a run in the top of the third inning when Jeremiah Vison would steal home successfully to take the lead 2-1. Justin Marquez (1 for 4, 1RBI) would add to the lead with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning building the lead to 3-1. Chris Rodriguez (2 for 3, 2 RBI) added another run to the scoreboard with an RBI single that scored Myles Moran (2 for 5, 2 runs scored).
Then the offense put the game away for good when they scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Seven different batters in the Rustler offense had multiple hits to help claim the 7-2 win. Knapp threw six solid innings giving up only two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters.
NEXT: The Rustlers will host the final game of the three-game series with Cerritos at home Monday 2/13, first pitch scheduled for 2pm.
