Huntington Beach, Calif. - Rustler Athletics announces the return of Golden West Basketball for the 2019-20 season. With plans to bring both a women's team and a men's team back to campus, the college is enthusiastic for the prospective students who want to purse their love of the sport, alongside their academic efforts.
Coach Dick Stricklin and the first Rustler men's basketball team took the court in 1966, the inaugural year of Golden West College. The team's most notable alumni is the late Jack Haley; who after playing for Golden West in 1984, attended UCLA and went on to spend 9 seasons in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. GWC basketball looks to reignite a winning tradition, adding on to the three California Community College State Championships earned by the Women's team early on in the program's history.
Currently, Golden West is seeking coaches with the desire to rebuild a program in one of the most athletically dominating community colleges in the state.
